Yeah, that can of course be the case. We are building in affordable NRW. :D

Curtain facade (renovation) gable with 6cm wood fiber insulation board + larch as floor/cover cladding:
Costs approx. 4K in 2008 (by craftsmen from the family)

Afterwards:

This is how it looked before:

A bit later (approx. 1.5 years) then the facade on the other side with about 100m²:
Substructure wooden beams, 10cm stone wool, underlayment membrane, larch as shiplap cladding. Almost everything done by myself with some help from family and friends (because of fear of heights :-( )
Costs: approx. 4–5K for materials (bought/taken together everywhere due to lack of money)

Result:

Before rather scary:

Looks somewhat different now (weathered), but I am still very satisfied.
However, I designed everything quite open (more than just diffusion-open) because I was afraid of endangering the old materials with big changes and therefore gave up on better insulation.

Thank you very much! May I be cheeky: do you perhaps still have a photo of the now grayed facade at the front?

That reminds me of another advantage of VHF: the degree of own work is higher than with ETICS.

if I don't forget, gladly. Otherwise, ask again...

Yes, that's right, the degree of own work can also be 100% as you can see.

We have a VHF with Alucobond panels on the entire exterior shell (also the ceilings on the &terrace and balcony). On a small area, this might still be possible with own effort. For larger areas, only with professional outdoor lasers. With Alucobond, the construction also has to be more stable due to the weight. For our panels, you need 2-3 people to carry them... The base panels were ordered accordingly. Cuts and drillings were done by CNC. On site, only special details were adjusted. Alucobond is even more expensive. From 600m2 you can have your own design manufactured.
