But it can also look nice to look at a hedge that is a bit closer. With floor-to-ceiling windows you also bring nature into the house :)
Herbs, garbage, or rain barrels around the corner are also well placed in tight spots.

However, the main exit should be chosen elsewhere, that would make more sense :)

Thank you for your responses.

Currently, my house construction is still in the planning phase – i.e., the earthworks should begin in the next few days. The information regarding the carport was only recently communicated to me by the neighbor; he had actually hoped to save on the crane and site equipment and thus use them free of charge.

Of course, I do not want any conflicts with the neighbor in advance – however, quite a few things have already gone wrong with him in the past. That means for about a year he has been constantly making new demands, which I have always complied with until now. But now it has to stop at some point....

So you have a building permit? For the already divided plot? The cadastral designation has not changed since then? And the planned, already approved neighboring development is shown in your site plan? Did he tell you that his building permit applies to the undivided parcel? And that his carport is supposed to be 5.5m high (who needs something like that)? Maybe the neighbor actually wants to outsmart the building authority through clever scheduling; in NRW that would certainly be possible, albeit illegal. I would request to inspect the neighbor’s building file at the building permit authority and then ask appropriate questions. To what extent you put your neighbor in a position where he has to explain himself through this, you must decide on site depending on the situation. If there are violations of building regulations, you can first confront the neighbor with this and, if he is uncooperative, address the building authority again.

A neighborhood is not always just about taking. Personally, I would never put myself in the weaker position from the start.
