We also built in a gap where 90% of the existing buildings, inhabited by retirees, are in the immediate neighborhood. Everyone is super nice to us and also shows interest in our house and life. Often we feel like their surrogate grandchildren. In fact, in the short time we have lived here (since 1.4.2020), two old houses have already been taken over by young families our age. I think that for many, due to high prices and a lack of plots, there isn’t much else left. That’s why I am convinced that in the next 5 years, more young people will settle here. A new development area was categorically out of the question for us, since you often have very little distance to the neighbor, you never really know how the neighbor builds, and it’s usually outside the city. A couple of friends are very unhappy with their simple 140 sqm house in the new development area, because now huge villas stand to the left and right of them and they only look at thick house walls. I would ALWAYS prefer the short distances. It honors you to think of the children, yet I would also think of old age and in that regard, such a location in your described gap is worth its weight in gold. The children will move out sooner or later. They will find friends anyway, whether in the immediate neighborhood or in the next town, which is why I wouldn't give this chapter too much attention.
