Dear Totti,

no, I don’t know the stove or the brand.

I believe you have never had a wood stove. I infer that from what you write.

Besides me, some people here with (long-term) experience have tried to tell you that what you’re planning is not optimal at all.

Personally, I would give you the following advice: Go to a studio for fireplaces and wood stoves. Especially at this time of year, stoves are running there. Sit about 50 or 80 cm away from the glass when such a device is glowing well.

I think by then at the latest you will understand what at least I wanted to tell you.

Apart from the fact that radiation does not avoid your sofa backrest at 50 cm distance......I guarantee you, if you do it as planned, there will be a rude awakening later.

Best regards
Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

Right, I have never had a stove.

But if the manufacturer says that nothing can happen with a 50 cm distance, then I can believe that, can't I?

The way we use our sofa, the person sitting closest would still be about 1.30 meters away from the fireplace.

Hey Totti,

yes. Nothing happens there if the safety distance is maintained.

But it is very warm at the border there. Even at a distance of 1.3 m from the glass, it is still really cozy.

My advice was serious: Just feel it yourself - a short visit with a cup of coffee in the trusted fireplace studio! It’s also fun and provides new insights into the truly fascinating world of heating / enjoying with a wood stove.

Many greetings
Thorsten

Before you decide, you should

[*]read the installation manual carefully. For example, it also contains an illustration showing how the distances to combustible walls or similar and the distances to the door must be maintained. In addition, you may need to pay attention to the exhaust and supply air. Does it have a fan (electricity), etc.?
[*]read the operating instructions carefully. There you will learn how to light your fire later, keep it alive, and let it go out. That sounds trivial but can be crucial. For example, in my stove, I can burn logs twice as large as in the model you prefer => less work.
[*]see the unit live once. There is a dealer search on the manufacturer’s homepage.

No, basically you shouldn't believe anything that manufacturers claim in their glossy brochures.

Just imagine it in terms of temperatures. Due to radiant heat, temperatures of 60-70°C could occur at a distance of 50-80 cm from the fireplace. That heats your couch but doesn't set it on fire. Now you just have to remember this summer and the days when 33°C felt incredibly hot. In short: it’s not only uncomfortable but unbearable.

Of course, you can still realize your concept and simply leave 1-2 seats unoccupied when the fireplace is in operation, but why should you restrict yourself like that?

From my experience, you should not keep the minimum distance if you can, because the chimney can get very warm over time. It once scorched my wool sweater on a drying rack placed in front of it!
