The screed outside the shower area has sagged

A sinking of the screed to a certain extent is probably never a defect, but normal. It has to do with the insulation beneath. Only if the wrong material was used, which is not sufficiently pressure-stable, could it be a defect. Has the joint to the wall cracked? Therefore, it is also recommended not to install baseboards in the house immediately, as the screed can still settle and joints may appear.

Morning, I know that, my question therefore relates to whether stricter/special rules apply in the sanitary area due to the increased amount of water when building, or if that is then regulated via the wall waterproofing. I suspect the latter, but you never know, maybe someone here in the forum has more knowledge about it.

I don’t have a photo handy right now and I’m also not really comfortable publishing one of my bathroom on the internet at the moment. The corner is about half a meter to one meter away from the shower area. The shower area has its own screed with a slope. Meanwhile, the adjacent screed (not the shower area) also has a slope so that all water that comes from showering (we don’t have a glass door, meaning water easily gets there) drains into the non-shower area, but not into a channel; instead, the water collects at a wall in the non-shower area. I hope the wall/floor sealing can withstand this.

Actually the latter. For this, there is the surface sealing under floors/walls.

If the need for the photo is worse than that of the possible construction defect, you can also end the thread here...

It should withstand it. Whether the tile adhesive and the wall will withstand it in the long run or whether it will cause damage is another question.

Who among the smart people here is actually asking what the reason for a "sinking of the screed" could be, and whether this might possibly be a warranty case against the screed installer (who presumably also installed the insulation)? Random tinkering and "oh, it's not that bad" are not helpful answers. And every repair, without exception, is only carried out if the cause of a defect has been identified. But that is not the case here. No one is asking why a floating screed in residential construction can sink. Yes, the construction must be opened. Ideally after a written notice of defects in the presence of the respective craftsman who installed the screed at that time. All other suggestions are not very constructive! Greetings to the group: KlaRa

Did someone say that? Photos were requested, regarding the condition of the joints. And also the hint was given that possibly the wrong insulation material was used under the screed.

hmm. Maybe because everyone knows that depending on the insulation material under the floating screed, a certain compressibility is already stated in the product description.
Maybe it’s not the screed that settled, but the whole house is now a bit tilted? Who knows...
