Hello, I have the following problem. We bought a two-family house with a full basement. So far everything is fine, but unfortunately you can hear everything from one floor to the other. I have no explanation for this. The house was built in 1985, prefabricated concrete ceilings were installed, screed, tiles, and wooden ceilings. Actually, nothing or very little should be audible. When someone talks in the basement, you can hear every word on the ground floor depending on where you are. In the entire area you can hear the speaking and in some areas every word. I am really puzzled and don't understand it. I would like to find a solution so that it is no longer so sensitive to sound. Gerdchen

Hello,

Can you rule out that there could be errors in the insulation of the wastewater pipes?

How high is the floor structure? Radiators or underfloor heating? Ventilation system in the screed?

Best regards from the Rhineland

I am absolutely no construction expert, so I can’t really answer all of this. I don’t have anything open here to see the exact floor structure. When I asked, I was told it is a "normal" construction. I measured the ceilings in the stairwell, and they are 36 cm including ceiling panels and tiles, so from bottom edge to top edge. There is probably a batten under the panel. Normal radiators are installed. I don’t know anything about ventilation systems in the screed. However, there should be a layer of foam boards and normal insulation, meaning the yellow boards installed. It all sounds normal to me, but I’m just not a professional.

Do you have tiles only on the floor or also on the walls in the [Keller]?

There are only tiles on the floor. However, the entire house has been worked on with drywall, so the walls are all built with masonry, but instead of plaster, there is drywall on all the walls and then 80% textured plaster.
