Terrace roofing VSG glass vs. polycarbonate

Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my terrace roof with aluminum profiles. As roof covering, various manufacturers offer laminated safety glass [VSG-Glas] or polycarbonate (plexiglass).
Does anyone have experience regarding durability / appearance / heat emission / other aspects after a few years?
Polycarbonate is significantly cheaper, but also lighter and can be selected with heat coatings (since the terrace faces south).

I worked in a carpenter's shop that built terrace roofs. Laminated safety glass [VSG] was always used, and I would always choose it. You can walk on it for cleaning, it does not fade, and is resistant to scratches. The decision would be clear for me. Regards

Polycarbonate (Plexiglas)

will eventually become cloudy as it ages, since the surface is not as smooth as glass.
Since we occasionally consider getting a patio roof (probably not), we have also thought about it a bit. I think a roof over your head, once you have it, should be noticeable. So I personally wouldn’t have concerns with polycarbonate if you can no longer see through it. It would also be a pleasant sun blocker.
However, it may be that you eventually have problems with moss, etc. At my parents’ place, you climb onto the glass roof to clean it; that probably wouldn’t work with polycarbonate?

But: I have no personal experience!
