They would have to get married first... That could help a bit because of the spouse splitting, but not more than a few hundred euros per year.

If the two were already married and therefore filing jointly, a switch to tax classes 3/5 would only shift the timing (either more money during the year or a significant amount with the tax return) of the tax deduction.

Parental allowance receipt would, however, have a negative impact on the tax return in such a case. Usually, you then have to pay money back to the tax office.

There are indeed cases where you can optimize the receipt of parental allowance (since it is 65% of the calculated net average of the last 12 months) by skillful choice and multiple switches of tax classes. But you have to plan and start that a few months before the desire to have children.

But all of this would not offset the costs of a child, and those cost significantly more at the beginning than just the child benefit.

And again someone who simply does not want to understand... that the tax declaration class has NO influence on the amount of taxes to be paid...

My tax advisor says otherwise, even a simple tax declaration class calculator on the internet, but maybe you know more?

My 2 cents/lay opinion:

What changes is the distribution of taxes based on the respective income, but overall the tax remains the same for jointly assessed taxpayers, except for a few euros per year. Exceptions prove the rule, which rather applies to the self-employed and/or unmarried.

Then I would change the tax advisor. Your tax burden is independent of the tax class. They only determine when you pay the taxes. With 4/4, you simply get the money back in the tax return compared to 3/5.

How and what exactly the tax advisor "calculates," no idea. But just a question, if I, for example, use an online tax class calculator and enter the annual salary, why do different amounts come out for how much they both have to pay in taxes per year in different constellations???
