Sit it out? In the truest sense of the word... :p

I find that hard - unfortunately, we already did that for half a year

For 6 months the chairs have been peeling and of all days, today they no longer look good :D. Once the attention is on it, you can't overlook it anymore. My wife would sew a "temporary cover" and look forward to the postponed joint "hunt".

No, they started peeling slightly since Easter, and only one chair. When the second one showed symptoms, I got down to collecting and developing crochet patterns etc. for covers and slipcovers. I don’t like slipcovers themselves at all. In November we realized that the peeling had gotten somewhat worse... But in November the kitchen extension was due... If you see the left seating area: it only becomes noticeable overnight.
The day after tomorrow it might already be peeled off. I’m doing it here because I have time now, encouraged me with her kitchen sofa and the sun in the house refreshes us, to replace them urgently :p

Since it’s faux leather, good thing you didn’t oil it. Otherwise, you would have just spread the grease onto the clothes you sit on the chairs with. I’d guess that the plasticizer in the synthetic material has evaporated, making the imitation porous. So better no faux leather anymore.

I was lucky to get the Vitra EA 207 Soft Pad (leather cushions) very cheaply from the closure of my employer’s branch. Designed by Ray and Charles Eames. At the regular price, I certainly wouldn’t have bought them: €2,776 (each !!)
