Hello everyone,

a few days ago we had the brickwork re-grouted afterwards. Unfortunately, my wife is very unhappy with the color of the grout. Even if this sounds like a trivial issue... we will have to live with the grout and the appearance for a lifetime.

Is there a way to subsequently adjust the color of the brick? Or is the only option to remove the entire grout and have it redone?

Best regards,

Of course, it is possible to change the appearance.

1. Have the joints re-grouted. So, chisel out the old joints and have them redone. Others buy a small car for that (if you have it done).
2. Paint the bricks. Whether that will look nice, I'll just leave that open (or simply deny it).
3. Have the bricks completely removed and re-bricked. But then, alternatively, a compact class car is definitely in it.

It is a rustic brick, therefore the joint was recessed by a few millimeters. Is it possible to smooth over these remaining millimeters with new joint mortar and thus change the joint color?

Just under an hour ago, the veneer shell was already grouted:

Only four months ago, 195 sqm of living space with self-performed work, mind you:

This saving

will not be enough to change the grout color. Was the wrong thing saved on (not taking the wife to the sample selection)?
Thoroughness before speed is said not to be the worst habit.

I would honestly wait first. It needs to dry completely, everything is unfamiliar.

I assume that it is not ugly or unsuitable now, but simply "new" and different than expected.
A few days are not enough to say that you can't live with it for a lifetime.
Just wait.
Would you like to post a photo?

Without having experience with this specific situation, but with a lot of experience with materials in general, I suggest (after waiting to see if it simply just needs time ;)) looking for a translucent tinting. Mortar joints are porous and there could very well be a coloring material that "makes a difference." However, probably only towards a darker color. Lightening will be difficult (I assume, if it is even possible). With a translucent (see-through) application, you always have to consider the existing color in the mixture.

It would also be important to find out whether and how the clinker accepts such a glaze, (so that it does not change its color as well).
