I know it as always being the case that the last step connects to the floor on the story floor. But I am talking about concrete stairs; it actually has to be that way because of screed expansion. Whether this is smaller or larger usually does not matter.

For cantilevered stairs, it may be customary differently, which would also make more sense!

Certainly also a matter of taste... I find it unsettling and not particularly beautiful.

You can do that too if you have the space. But I don't see any advantage. Visually, a surface change is a surface change.

I am seeing it this way for the first time.

You have to explain to me: Why does that cost more space? Whether the first 25cm of the upper floor continue the stair covering or already have the upper floor’s flooring makes no difference.

I find the version with one step at floor level also clearly nicer. Without this step it is not my thing at all, it simply looks less harmonious. In 99% of the houses I know, there is this top step as well.
