Have you ever thought about handrail lighting? I find something like that very elegant, provided there is a handrail.

That's exactly the kind of handrail lighting we want to have made. In the end, it's even cheaper, at least if you want a handrail anyway. The electrician only needs to provide a power outlet, which is much cheaper than stair lighting with spotlights. We'll have the handrail made by the carpenter. The lighting (LED strip) is then integrated hidden underneath. It gives a nice light down onto the stairs, so it can't cause any glare either. I think it's stylish and also something different from those standard spotlights (which I found quite expensive with electrical preparation and all that comes with it).

That is also a very good idea. However, we are getting a stainless steel handrail. I don't know if and how that can be implemented...

Complete systems for stainless steel handrails are already available to buy on the internet. Just google it.

Isn't it more common to install both? I only know stair step spots as relatively dim lamps, so that you can see the steps in the evening and at night without having to turn on the main light. Those things are always on depending on brightness and time of day (typical power guzzlers that are only installed for the chic look). If you want it bright, you need additional ceiling lamps or wall lamps. But I would definitely not use the stair step lamps to light up the room. That casts strange shadows upwards when you walk past.

That’s exactly my question. Actually, we don’t find a wall lamp on the stairs very nice, so we would prefer spots. Since you don’t linger on the stairs, it doesn’t need to be daylight bright there, but the spots should be bright enough to have pleasant light. Not just some kind of night light...
