Roofing, so that no heat buildup can occur in the first place. Only underroofing for "dirt phobics".

Even without side walls, heat buildup can occur. When the whole thing is wind-protected or simply on days when there is no breeze. Fluid physics is complicated.

so we also thought about it and then decided on an under-roof. Full south side, roof is about 3.5x3m, next to it a sunshade.

For us, there is enough ventilation underneath so that we don’t have any heat buildup, and currently we are not outside at noon anyway, not even in the shade.

Just looking at the stuff that always lies on the roof, I prefer having the whole mechanics with the rail underneath, at least it doesn’t get dirty so quickly.

I loooove these "disconnected" individual questions about construction projects that we don’t know as complete plans – it’s easy to miss potentially crucial details in the mental imagery.

In general, it must be noted: the heat ingress becomes effective immediately behind the glass passage. A short distance between glass and the undershade does not help – on the contrary: even a two-hand width gap would be best there, provided this intermediate layer is thoroughly ventilated. Also, it must generally be noted unfortunately that rain and wind – both not necessarily clean, but mixed with e.g. pollen or resins – reliably dirty an over-roof shade and at the next opportunity it is rolled up by the wind sensor in this state. So if outside, then never ever plain in white tones.

Under glass and then not textile, but slats, I could imagine as a relatively best – though probably not the most financially convincing – solution.

Does the terrace roof overlap with the overhang of the main roof? – then one could fight heat accumulation with airflow (with the small disadvantage of a slight downwind breeze at the back of those who sit in front of the house wall).

I am still in favor of glass that darkens at the push of a button. It is known from cars. Possibly also not cost-optimized.
