If you want to control every roller shutter, each must be assignable separately to the actuator, but there are only four wires. KNX push-buttons do not work at all without programming, unless you use regular push-buttons and separate bus couplers that are connected in between, but then you have to lay two cables again: the cable for the classic relay switching and the KNX cable.

Uwe described it correctly... I always talk about the 5 cores because 5x1.5 is simply cheaper to purchase than 4x1.5... KNX devices don’t work at all without programming... no matter what you connect in between... except of course things like actuators with manual operation.

My advice to you Simon: Just take a couple of TSD in your hand... and do the basic installation in KNX as I described it... only the necessary and the rest later...

KNX is not as devilishly expensive as it is always described...

But a mix of KNX and conventional is simply a crutch and afterwards you have more headaches than before...

Then just do without expensive tiles or parquet or any other optical gimmicks and you’ll have the necessary few thousand...

The problem I see with this is that when moving in, there isn’t necessarily time to program KNX, set everything up, and get it working. And I don’t want to wait 6 months before my [Rollläden] work.

Even though there are certain differing opinions on this, it is worth taking a look at Free@Home, especially for the "simpler" purposes. You cannot implement really complex KNX logics with it, but the programming is so simple that it can be done even during the stress of moving.

Well, someone has to do all the wiring anyway, that person could also commission it. Or did you want to take over the electrical work yourself?

If it weren't so far away, I'd almost say I could come by and do the basic programming for you...

I do not assign the trade separately and do not do it myself either, so I have no influence on the executing company... I only know an electrician journeyman and no master electrician, unfortunately that is not enough for acceptance, otherwise I would have done it differently...

Visiting on site would be ideal Maybe internet help will be enough

Currently I am really considering already controlling the roller shutters via KNX and preparing the rest a bit:
For that I only need (I took the prices from MDT):
- Bus power supply ~ €160
- 2x 8-fold shutter actuators ~ €460
- 1x 16-fold binary input ~ €230
- IP gateway €170
- EIB cables in switches, windows, doors, lamp outlets, possibly sockets
- Star-shaped wiring for everything that will be switchable in the future

You can’t save on pushbuttons/switches, conventional ones will continue to be used. But at least you don’t need KNX pushbuttons if you have a binary input – correct?

Have I forgotten anything important to get it running like this?
