Our neighbor has provided a drain in the middle and naturally has a slope for it. However, everything is level in our place as well, and this has proven to be absolutely suitable over the past 15 years (in other garages).

It is important to plan the closure of the garage door on the floor slab from the beginning when creating the floor slab. There should be a small step outward that prevents rainwater from flowing inside at the slightest rain. That means the door seal is about 0.5-1 cm lower than the garage floor level. Of course, it must be placed in the right position, but for that, one should already know exactly how the door will be installed. We forgot this because the door was only planned a year later (sectional door), now water occasionally comes in from outside...

Hello everyone!

Since there is a discussion here about slope and execution, I would like to chime in with a different question.
Are there any particular reasons or disadvantages to simply laying the garage floor with pavement without a concrete slab?

-> One pro for pavement would be, for example, no standing moisture, cheaper and seamless execution from the driveway into the garage.

Any particular disadvantages? Apart from the fact, again, that liquids can seep through and thus no oil or similar substances may leak out...?

We are currently torn back and forth whether to install a concrete slab or pavement.
If a concrete slab is used, there is again debate whether it should be laid on strip foundations (frost protection) or without.

Opinions, recommendations!? Thanks! :)

Hello,

I am on the team for the concrete floor slab, simply because it is the most flexible for me to use.
So, for example, if I want to add permanent walls later, I can have masonry built or construct something myself with drywall.
Also, dealing with a jack on the paving joints would soon really get on my nerves. When I think of the joints, dust/dirt immediately comes to mind. It can then be cleaned with more effort or swept through with a broom.
Leaking operating fluids are, in my opinion, another point in favor of the concrete floor slab. Especially if you don’t intend to (or can’t) change the vehicle every 3 years.

With paving in the garage, I would have concerns that driving or standing marks will form over time.
If the subsoil is sufficiently compacted, that may not happen, but no one can guarantee it.
And when I imagine that the tire marks will become visible under the sealing strip at the closed door, it gives me a bit of a shiver :p

In my opinion, paving stones are a big mess. Over time they can settle where the car stands. Also, they absorb all substances and eventually look awful. Hard to keep clean with all the joints.

Worst case was with an acquaintance. Because of that, he had water in the garage (it was pushed up through the paving stones), now the plaster on the walls is falling off because it obviously soaks in.

It may be by far the cheapest solution, but also the most impractical solution with plenty of disadvantages...

However, I do not quite understand why the interior walls of a garage should be plastered. Until now, I have never missed this in various garages.
