You mean by the basic charge the flat rate that the energy supplier demands, right?

We are also facing the decision of whether to install a 2nd meter or not. We are installing an air-water heat pump and a 9.9 KWp system on the roof. However, we are foregoing the storage.

Exactly. And I am pretty sure that the second meter is more expensive than what you can save.

If the second meter costs 120 euros per year, but the heating tariff is only 4 cents cheaper, you don't save anything on the first 3000 kWh. In addition, there is the photovoltaic system that you cannot use for hot water in summer with two meters.

Why can't I use the photovoltaic system for hot water in summer if there is a second meter?

For us, the difference is 6.63 between normal electricity and heat pump electricity.

Is the heat pump even allowed to be connected to the normal meter? It is partly not allowed at all? The grid operator wants to take away the electricity from the heat pump during peak load times. Only because of this, discounted electricity even exists, because the grid operator reserves the right to switch off the heat pump during peak load times.

0.0663 EUR per kWh and a basic charge of 61.63 EUR results in a break-even at 930 kWh. If 10,000 kWh thermal energy is needed and a performance factor of 3.5 is achieved, then 2,857 kWh of electricity is required.

In our calculation example, that would be an advantage of 127.76 EUR per year.

If the second meter costs 800 EUR, you have a return of 15.97% or a payback period of 6 years and 3 months.

In the end, it’s all peanuts anyway, I would, if allowed, connect the heat pump to the normal electricity so that it is not switched off.

And in the end, the following applies: Seek a clarifying conversation with the grid operator and ask what is allowed. Note, even though these are often connected, the standard supplier is not the grid operator.

Because the photovoltaic system is connected to the household electricity, but the hot water is connected to the other meter.

But I don't understand that.

Because if the air-to-water heat pump is on a different meter than the photovoltaic system, it never makes sense to install a second meter in the combination of air-to-water heat pump and photovoltaic.

Or am I making a mistake in my thinking?
