ypg of course you are convinced of your house, you have usually done everything right yourself and the others have no idea. On the street, everyone else always drives stupidly: too fast too slow. Only you yourself always drive exactly right.

The reality when it comes to shading unfortunately tells a different story. You may not even notice yourself how often you darken, you don’t really perceive it, you know the view anyway, even if it is not there at the moment. I can only advise everyone to walk through new housing developments on weekend afternoons now in autumn and winter: the south sides of the vast majority of houses will be darkened. The windows act like radiators when the sun shines on them, you quickly have 25° and more in the living room. By the time the underfloor heating is turned down and the floor actually cools down, the sun is already gone again.

Then it is different for you than in 90% of other villages and small towns. In our village, everyone is happy that we now have wonderful light and sun in the rooms and on the terrace on the south side, also in summer. No one voluntarily builds their terrace facing north. And no one, really no one, has darkened or built anything that blocks the west or south side here.

But you have completely misread it.
What does convinced mean? I would certainly do some things differently after 5 years, but that's not the point. This is about experiences, e.g. the airspace and the resulting noise level on the upper floor. With two people it is not too bad for us, but with children it should be solved differently, e.g. with an extra children’s hallway.
That would be a constructive suggestion if you consider an airspace.

Yes, I do notice that. I am certainly the last person in this forum to deceive myself or others.

My parents-in-law have an airspace, of course the feeling in that room is great, but the children didn't find it so great when they had to sleep and the parents were having their game night. You can hear every word upstairs. The doors and walls are not bad though. However, they did not build the house themselves. They would never build it like that themselves. Now that the children have moved out, it is of course no longer a problem. But it was for 15 years.

No, the terrace belongs in the sun, I never said anything about a terrace. Although, south terrace = sunshade / awning... because shade is needed, but whatever, let's leave it at that now. So the terrace has to be placed differently on the property.

It's not about permanent building over, but temporary shading. But I give up. Keep your arguments, for example for the next KNX thread, when it’s about lowering the blinds depending on light sensors, temperature & time of day. Because... in your opinion, shading is never necessary anyway. So you can save yourselves all the trouble. Wow!
