Should the radiation of the Netatmo doorbell be adjusted at the access points?

Hello everyone,

I am torn whether to get a Netatmo video doorbell or a Ring.

What annoys me a bit is that the Netatmo only works with Wi-Fi. I am building new and would actually like to install an Ethernet cable (PoE) for it. But oh well.

If I now install an access point in the entrance area instead of the Ethernet cable to the doorbell, can I then adjust the radiation? Something similar to how I can set the active area for some motion detectors or cameras.

I don't want to radiate over to the neighbor, but only the 2-3 meters to the west from the entrance area to the front door towards my neighbor.

Apart from that, are there users who have had experience with the Netatmo doorbell? ;)

Let me know if yes.

Thank you and greetings from the white BaWü
Anna

Basically, I would always lay a network cable or empty conduit to the door in order to keep all options open now or in the future.

Why do you want to place an access point in the entrance area? Are you afraid that the normally planned one won't reach the door?

With APs, you cannot adjust the radiation angle. Depending on the access point and mounting position, you can have a little influence. In general, there are options to reduce the transmit power, but this only works completely and not directionally. Or you use exclusively the 5GHz network, which has a short range, and stay on the lower 4 channels to avoid DFS.

There are few APs where you can adjust the radiation. However, you can adjust the power. If the Netatmo can do 5Ghz, simply turn off the 2.4Ghz WiFi and set the transmit power on 5Ghz to low.

Why not Doorbird? It can at least do LAN compared to the other toy doorbells. Especially in new buildings, when you have all options available, I consider a WLAN/battery solution to be the worst of all variants.

Modern Multi MIMO devices do that automatically ... Unfortunately not adjustable. However, there are APs with a defined radiation angle (e.g. 120°) AND adjustable transmission power. That could work, but I wouldn't even consider limiting the transmission power just so that the neighbor doesn't get "irradiated". Or are you afraid that he might "hack" the signal? A tightly glued aluminum foil on the inside of the house should ultimately solve your problem :p

Do you have a Doorbird? A 1101 or the 2 series?

Yes, I also see the LAN connection as an advantage. The Doorbird just costs almost twice as much..

Thanks for all the answers so far.

Yes, I don’t know how the WLAN reception is in the entrance area, that’s why I’m asking if you can set up an access point like that. Or a repeater?

Unfortunately, the Netatmo camera only supports 2.4 GHz.
