here with us (Berlin) you would have to agree if the neighbor wants to connect to your connection,
if there is no agreement a second channel is required, with full costs.
Furthermore, it is technically necessary,
up to your house 150 channels,
up to the son 125 channels,
up to the neighbor's son 100 channels.
If you now lay a 100 channel, only one house (son) may connect.

I think we are all talking past each other a bit. I neither want to educate my neighbor nor do I want him to have to share costs from which he gains no benefit.

I just want to check if there is a possibility to involve him in the costs later on, provided he also uses the connection.

Then your son could buy the neighbor's 50% of the path and make the path nice after building

The neighbor of course does not want that, because he wants to divide and then sell his undeveloped property. That is absolutely his right. The access to both properties will of course not run through his property, but through the shared path. Life lesson: never share a right of way :D

I understood that very clearly. I also understood that the neighbor rejects that.

If that is the case for you, I would proceed as follows:
"Dear neighbor, we are building a channel for the connection of my son's house. If you want to join in, a larger connection is necessary, which involves additional costs. I offer you to participate today so that you have lower costs later when you develop your property. Are you in? To make it fair, I suggest that you cover the surcharge for the larger piping in the first step and, in case your house is connected to this piping, you participate further so that in total everyone bears 50% of the costs."
As an additional benefit for the neighbor, you could emphasize that he secures today's construction prices and does not have to pay the future ones.
For this, a simple contract is sufficient, which I would extend to a possible property buyer.
