Sell used kitchen - How/where is the best way to do it?

Hello everyone,

when we moved in, we installed a new Ikea kitchen in the current rental property. When we move out to our own house, it will be about three years old, so still in good condition. The landlord will do a major renovation of the property after we move out, including removing a kitchen wall, so there won’t be a direct next tenant and the current layout will no longer fit the property. We also don’t want to take the kitchen with us to the new house.

So far, I am used to renting kitchens or taking them over from the previous tenant and passing them on to the next tenant. Therefore, I am now wondering how I can sell the kitchen with good timing and without a total financial loss. Since I have never bought used, picked up, and assembled one myself, I wonder how realistic this plan is and which sales channel (ebay Kleinanzeigen?) would be promising.

The minimal solution would be to sell off the appliances and donate or take the rest to bulky waste. Or, if no one wants to take everything at once, at least advertise the carcasses individually including drawers. It is after all the current Metod series, so there should be someone who would gladly take them assembled and at a discount? One can always buy fronts and handles according to their taste... good idea or pipe dream?

If the landlord doesn't want to take them: eBay Kleinanzeigen. Unfortunately, I have to say that the depreciation for used kitchens is already drastic. You probably also have no warranty left on the appliances (possibly due to warranty extension)?

If you are on FB, you can also post them with photos in your status and have friends share it, it spreads virally.

I would only allow contact via email, possibly even set up a temporary email address for this purpose.

I wouldn’t take more than 50% of the original price as a starting point for negotiation, and there is definitely room to negotiate downwards :/

Edit: Self-pickers who dismantle at their own risk obviously also have their advantage. Usually pay less though.

I would list it on eBay Kleinanzeigen one month before moving out.

However, you should not set the price too high, used furniture only sells by chance. Luck plays a big role. Otherwise, a high price, which might be the case with the electrical appliances, tends to discourage buyers for an entire kitchen.

Don’t you have a large utility room that you can furnish with the furniture? A backup kitchen without appliances so to speak.

[emoji44] 50%? That would never work here.

Ok: For a 2000- kitchen, some would probably pay 1000, but not 5000 for a 10000 one. Bargain hunters can also get a new one for 5000. Quality usually plays a minor role in used items; rather, the final price matters.
And honestly, a Nolte sells better to quality-conscious buyers, while tinkerers are better off at Ikea. But tinkerers are also the ones who can afford to create something better and new for less.

I agree with the previous speakers. With furniture, you can expect almost a total loss.

We sold our 10 meter Pax with all sorts of interior for 95 €. The desired price was 350 €, stayed at the wish^^

Regarding the kitchen, even the charitable organizations are picky. I mean, when I wanted to get rid of an 8-year-old kitchen, it was too old for them^^

Always mention dismantling and transport on Ebay. Otherwise, you will have that stress too!

Phew, difficult question. Could you imagine possibly bridging a few weeks without a proper kitchen (only microwave/ hot plate)?

I haven’t had such good experiences with Ebay Classifieds with my first move. There was still time then, since I moved in with my boyfriend into an existing apartment and gradually moved everything over the course of weeks.

Moving into the house was spread over considerably less time and there was so much else to organize in parallel – I would never have had the patience for the buyer shenanigans: I’m coming – no, I’m not coming/ agree at first and then never get back in touch (and I had already declined all other interested parties)/ agree – never get back in touch and then suddenly show up unannounced/ come and then don’t find it nice enough...

I can understand that you want to make good use of the thing and preferably get some money for it. But is it worth the time and effort? And the risk of having to dismantle and dispose of it yourself three days before handing over the apartment...?

How it looks with other platforms – no idea. You probably notice that I’m not a fan of Ebay Classifieds or only if time is no issue (hence the question how early you could sell). ;-)
