In the construction cost thread, the topic of the usefulness of storage, power cloud, etc. recently came up.

Therefore, here is now a discussion thread solely on this topic.

Since May 2020, I have had a 10 kWp system on the roof and a 10 kWh storage unit in the utility room.
Also, since August 2020, a power cloud via the company Senec (EnBW).

With this, the electricity fed in during the summer is credited to an account and can be drawn again in winter under favorable conditions.
The prevailing opinion on the subject everywhere is that it is not worthwhile.
The same applies to the question of storage yes/no.

Therefore, I have made a cost breakdown for myself and compare my current costs with various scenarios such as "power cloud or normal electricity tariff," "photovoltaic system with and without storage," and the costs "completely without photovoltaic system."

Attached you will find my breakdown.

Looking forward to an active discussion

I have not checked the invoices now, but your consumption seems very high to me. How come?

Yes, the consumption is very high. This is regular household electricity, heat pump, and electric car. In summer, things like the pool and air conditioning in the bedroom are added. In winter, I also run a 1600W convector heater when I'm in the attic (almost daily). We also have a very high water consumption of about 200m³ because we simply shower a lot. Especially the children sometimes like to sit in the shower until the hot water tank is empty :P The heating rods then of course also consume more electricity due to the high hot water usage. Basically, there is potential for savings, that is correct. However, I currently see no need for action regarding the costs.

I cannot follow the explanations and when I see kw/h, I stop reading anyway…

Please excuse the incorrect designation. Just ignore the /  I’ll try to simplify it. Thanks to the photovoltaic system, storage, and electricity cloud, I had total costs of 719.23 last year. If I hadn't had the electricity cloud but a regular electricity tariff with a basic fee of €9.90 per month and a consumption price of 30 cents per kwh, I would have paid €1,386.34, so €667.11 more. So the electricity cloud would be cheaper in this case. If I hadn't had storage, I would have fed in more and also had to draw more from the grid. That would have been additional costs of €611.67. If I hadn't had a photovoltaic system at all, I would have paid a total of €3,498.45 at the assumed electricity price of €9.90 basic fee and 30 cents per kwh again. That would be a saving of €2,779.22 in one year. With an investment of €15,000, the system would thus have paid for itself after 5.4 years.

I actually didn’t find any contradiction in the screenshot now. For you, it seems - now - to add up. How secure is the basic fee for the next years? Is that contractually fixed?

Especially in 2022, enbw can sell your electricity well above the feed-in tariff on the market. I don’t think that would have worked like that in 2020.

But I also see your break-even point being forced out of the electricity meter at all costs. I personally find the regular emptying of the hot water tank just for fun very questionable, and then reheating it again with the heating rod? Why?

Not to mention that the kids are shown that electricity and especially hot water are always freely available. They will later thank you in their first own apartment, after receiving their first utility bill follow-up calculation.
