So we definitely will not go to a lawyer because of this. After almost 6 months, I certainly will not keep chasing him either. I just want him to either finish his work very soon (what deadlines are appropriate here) or for us to consider the matter closed and for me to be able to hire another company. We have been inquiring about the project since last autumn and it was always said yes, we will do it, and now here we are with the missing solar thermal system... a year later. He had enough time, God knows, to take care of everything.

Apparently, the craftsman can or will no longer deliver. I would address this openly and ask for the termination of the contract (of course, everything in writing). He will probably agree, and then that’s that. If not, set deadlines with the same goal.

I hope for you that you at least did not overpay.

There is probably no performance bond either.

Set a written deadline of 2 weeks. If this expires without success, set another 2-week deadline, with the announcement to terminate the contract with all consequences, such as damages, additional costs for a new contractor, loss of benefit from the solar system, etc.

In the first letter, you can announce that you will involve a lawyer if the contract is not fulfilled.

In my opinion, a lawyer should draft the letters. Whether you then send them in your name or the lawyer's name is your decision.

Keep us updated on how you have now agreed with the contractor.

has meanwhile made a pretty good proposal. ;)

What is so special about _these_ days? Ultimately, the OP has been complaining since July. At some point, enough with "bad days," "problematic times" – the behavior is simply unprofessional and cheeky, nothing more. He is just stalling. Set deadlines and do it in a formal letter, which has to meet certain criteria if you want to do everything right. Either Google it or consult a lawyer (only for advice). It has to be legally secure; you may also ask in person, as suggested. The deadlines are apparently each 2 weeks (2 x written deadline), but you can look all that up on the internet.

The range of problems these days is very diverse.

Staff shortages or restrictions due to vaccine injuries, lack of motivation due to too low wages and/or too high deductions, continuous price increases or supply bottlenecks for certain products. Massive payment defaults, credit line reductions, and high financing costs due to increased interest rates complete the problem area.

These are my experiences from my company, not in the construction industry, but similar.

We currently only manage to process existing orders with immense effort. The interest on our overdraft facility is currently just under 9 percent. Very high when you have to pre-finance in the million range.

On top of that, a bunch of stupid customers.

But no, of course we have no problems. Everything is running smoothly.

If you call your customers "stupid"..... that says a lot about you and/or your company. Even if that were the case, it does not belong on the internet.
