Hello,

I am relatively new here... We are currently buying a single-family house and during the viewing I noticed the following (see picture): The control for the electric roller shutters is installed directly above the bathtub??!! Among other questions, I wonder if this is not a safety issue? Children will be playing in the bathtub and there will surely be splashing water... I am not an expert, so please excuse my "layman's terms"... They are now possibly planning to relocate a relay? higher up, so that there will be no voltage in the box below, but it will still function.

What do you think about this??

Although I am also a layman, normal alternating voltage of 240 V is almost certainly not allowed in the area of the socket. Search for the keyword Installationszone on Wikipedia or similar, where you will find more details. Low voltages might perhaps be allowed (e.g., to control a relay that is outside the protective zone around the tub). However, the switch should probably still meet IPX4 (protection against water splashes from all directions).

Hello,

I am not a specialist either, but we were told during the electrical installation planning that a minimum distance of 60 cm must be maintained from bathtubs.

Around the bathtub, there are installation zones 0 (inside the bathtub itself) - zone 1 (zone 0 + vertically upwards up to a height of 2.25 m) and zone 2 (60 cm radius around zone 1).

In zone 0, only equipment for the bathtub itself may be used (e.g. lighting for the whirlpool). In zone 1 only permanently installed exhaust systems and water heaters are allowed.

In zone 2, in addition to exhaust systems and water heaters, lamps are also allowed. Cables, switches and sockets are not permitted in all three zones, unless they are switches for devices that are permanently installed in zones 1 and 2.

Since the roller shutter box is likely located in zone two, the switch at that position could be allowed.

Maybe an electrician will get in touch who can give you a reliable answer.

Regards,

Dirk

Sue the electrician. ;) The switch doesn't belong there functionally, but next to the light switch at the door or at least on the left side of the window. That way, every morning and evening you have to lean over the bathtub to reach the roller shutter switch, which is quite stupid in itself, because on both sides of the bathtub you have concealed installation access or even a completely extended wall where the cable including the switch could have been routed without much effort. If the bathtub is to get a fixed glazing for showering, it gets even funnier:

On the left, the window will no longer open, on the right the hose is too short, and the roller shutter switch will be blocked ...

So relocate the switch, it is completely out of place there.

Hello and thank you very much for your answers. Fortunately, there is no shower in the bathtub... Besides the safety-related question, the meaningfulness must clearly be clarified. I would have expected it at the light switch as well. As an office worker, it wouldn't even remotely occur to me to put a switch there. I'm curious how they want to explain that. Tip, what can I insist on here?? If the electrician now cuts the power there and everything is perfectly safe, they won't bother anymore, will they??

Depends on the situation ... You write that you are currently buying the house; sounds to me like an old building that is being remodeled/renovated. Then the question is, who is responsible for the renovation? You? The seller?
