Hello
I have the following question on my mind right now:
In my kitchen planning, I have a side table next to the dishwasher, underneath which there should be a base cabinet with drawers, but rotated so that the drawers open to the front, see picture:

If I now remove the side table in the Ikea planner and look at the transition between the dishwasher and the rotated base cabinet, the planner does not show a clean transition but forms an edge, see another picture:

I generally think it is common to install a base cabinet rotated, right?
What can I do so that a nice transition is formed with this arrangement?
How is it with the kickboard? The left side of the rotated base cabinet does not have a kickboard on the side, right?
On the left side of the rotated base cabinet, I have of course specified an end panel. Do I actually need an filler strip on the right so that the drawers do not hit the wall when opened?
But then the edge at the transition would become even bigger...
By the way, in the picture the drawers would not open fully because they would hit the door frame of the balcony door.
But that is not a problem, because in reality the door is still in a small niche and therefore the door frame does not protrude into the room.

Best regards

Hi,

once again a display error of the planner. The running direction of the countertop always follows the cabinet. So if you turn the cabinet, as in your case, it takes the countertop with it. In real life, of course, total nonsense.

I would not recommend turning the drawer cabinet unless you actually want to install a bar top. The cabinet itself is 59.8 cm wide, each side panel about 1.3 cm. As soon as you put a side panel on the turned cabinet, you get a misalignment that just looks stupid and in the end even an overhang that, with 2 side panels, becomes deeper than the countertop. You should also plan a filler piece or at least a side panel towards the wall so the drawers don’t scrape along the wall when opened. Since the cabinet is positioned with the back panel towards the dishwasher, you have no way to properly secure it against tipping. So you can only secure it against the house wall via the side panel. If you have a filler piece in, there is a gap between wall and cabinet that must be properly braced from behind and screwed in.

The solution would therefore be to take only a 50 cm base cabinet. Side panel on the left, filler strip on the right, and build it flush with the dishwasher. This way you can also easily continue the plinth board without having to cut anything.

Best regards

Nayla

Thanks Nayla! So I definitely want to make a side table like in the first picture, but I want to make it somehow "removable" so that in case we need more space, I can remove the side table and instead just place a worktop piece the size of the base cabinet "on top," like in the second picture. I haven't thought of the mechanism for that yet. Taking a 50 cm base cabinet instead of the 60 cm as you suggest makes sense to me. Unfortunately, there are no base cabinets with drawers in the 50 cm size. How would you solve this, what would you put under the side table? Regards Section Chief

Hello,

The countertop must run from the sink to over the rotated cabinet, as the dishwasher does not support it. With the domsjö, the support on the left is already very small. To then attach the table, you could drill holes sideways into the countertops (or have them drilled), into which you insert iron pipes. If you remove the table, you can close the holes with plugs. To store the removed board well, a folding or hand-unscrewable support leg would be advantageous. With a 50 cm cabinet, you always have to take a door. Depending on what is to go inside, you equip it with shelves, wire baskets, or internal drawers. To ensure the toe kick is continuous, you mount the feet slightly recessed inward.

Maybe Nayla can add something.

Thanks, do I understand correctly that the dishwasher is not attached to the countertop at all (only pushed underneath), and therefore it does not support the Domsjö? I hadn't thought of that at all. Thanks!!!

Do you mean the left rear corner or the left side of the Domsjö sink? It is still not fixed how this corner will be solved:
Either an 80 cm base cabinet with only a 30 cm door is installed in this corner (as in the picture), then the construction should be robust enough to support the Domsjö, right?
Or there will be a blind corner and immediately after the corner the Domsjö sink, then I would place an empty base cabinet carcass in the blind corner that is not used for anything but only serves to support the countertop. Should that also be robust enough for the Domsjö sink?

Yes, but the Domsjö is supported by the sink cabinet.

I mean the left side of the right countertop, which rests only on the sink cabinet side.

Regarding the 50 cm cabinet, it should be noted that you can of course also attach a door to the lower drawer and have inner drawers behind it.
