It's quite simple

Glazed means that glass-forming additives are applied to the roof tile. Once finished, it closely resembles a glaze and completely seals the roof tile.

In engobe application, a kind of slip is applied; you have probably seen blue roofs before. Engobes, unlike glazed roofs, are vapor-permeable.

Engobes are matte to satin matte, whereas glazes can be made high-gloss.

Edit: high-gloss roofing is very rarely allowed because it "can" interfere with air traffic.

Hello, I am facing the same decision: clay vs. concrete? We want a shiny roof on which [Grün] can grow. Could someone break down the pros and cons of clay vs. concrete? What else should be considered when making the choice?

We also decided on concrete. 1. Cheaper 2. More stable, heavier thus better sound insulation and in my opinion a safer roof Maybe they don't blow away so easily in a storm either

We took concrete. 1. no extra charge (compared to "model house") 2. my parents have a tile roof (ok, 25 years old) but on the north side it has basically turned into a moss roof and I can't imagine that concrete would be worse... so in the end I didn't care. I also can't live with extra charges for every part of the house all the time, the budget would burst at the seams eventually. And if I climb on the roof in 10 years and remove the gunk, it'll be fine again.

Only Jacobi roof tiles type J13 were an option for us. The construction contract only included engobed ones; our favorite was the "Avantgarde" glaze, which is subsequently mattified. The price difference was 50% for the tiles and 110% for the shaped parts. In direct comparison, the engobed tile feels rough. When you rub something over it, e.g. wood, material is rubbed off and remains in the pores. The glaze is smooth. Now on the finished roof, the color appears much richer and "deeper" compared to the engobed roofs. More dust from the construction road also accumulates on the engobed roofs. The cheapest concrete stones in the neighborhood look the worst, simply appearing very dull. However, I do not know what the surface finish is called there. I still immediately believe that all variants last 30 years. So it is more a matter of aesthetics.
