Hello,

I always have to smile when I read questions like these

Everywhere people philosophize about new technologies, renewable energies, or green roofs, but when it comes to their own roof, the discussion suddenly stops.

Clay roof tiles are usually more expensive, because the roofer cannot handle them as carelessly as concrete roof tiles; so a lot of breakage must be taken into account. Why it is now offered at price neutral for you – no idea, because Nelskamp® also provides for this price difference.

Concrete roof tiles of the newer generation are not really better or worse than clay roof tiles. This is mainly because they are mostly offered with double glazing; often with a 30-year factory warranty.

Finally, it should be mentioned that green roofing brings many proven advantages, for which interested builders pay a lot of money. To name just a few:

[*]Longer lifespan of the roof sealing due to protection against UV radiation, temperature differences, hail impact, and crust formation
[*]Improvement of heat and cold insulation
[*]Binding and filtering of dust and air pollutants
[*]Improvement of airborne sound insulation through greater vibration inertia of the total surface and good sound absorption of the vegetation
    [*]Protection against electro-smog

And builders worry when these advantages are gradually achieved free of charge on their roof

Best regards from the Rhineland

Hello, thanks for the reply.

What I have found online regarding prices so far is that the concrete tiles are priced the same as the clay tiles (maybe because of the shape)? I have already heard that installation is easier, and Nelskamp also advertises it that way...

What I am reading here so far is that I can safely choose the concrete tiles? We really like them visually and that is supposed to be an important aspect as well

Regards

I am building a bungalow; when I arrive and when I sit in the garden, I always look at the roof. For me, the appearance is indeed more important than having a "natural UV protection" for the roofing. From that perspective, it should also be considered.
My house will then stand between a concrete roof with significant vegetation and a clay tile roof that still looks like new after 8 years. With a concrete roof, I would constantly be reminded that I should have saved money at another end.

And if it really is like that... (I will observe it over the next few years ): How many people buy clay roof tiles at an extra cost, but then later sit on their concrete terrace every day and look at the faded color and the efflorescence of that surface? Usually, it is the extra cost for the roof (not in the case of the OP), and you have to set priorities when the budget is limited -

For me, the biggest argument FOR concrete is the fact that Tegalit is only available in concrete

There is also Tourmaline, the clay equivalent from Braas to Tegalit.
