Hello,
I have a question about reveal insulation strips or wall edge strips at the window reveals. We have a double-shell masonry with a construction of about 45 cm (from outside to inside):
- 17.5 cm Ytong
- 14 cm facade insulation (Rockwool Kernrock; 1x 6 cm thick and 1x 8 cm thick staggered on the wall anchors)
- approx. 1-2 cm air layer
- 11.5 cm clinker/veneer (Röben hand-formed brick)
The windows will be installed on the inner rebate (clinker). At the reveals of the wall corners/windows, air-layer-limiting reveal insulation strips (extruded polystyrene, XPS) should be installed/glued. Since we have 14 cm facade insulation, the reveal insulation strips should also be 14 cm deep, right? Installed were reveal insulation strips with the dimensions 14x8 cm. The clinker has now been raised. We are getting 21 windows. At 4 of these windows, I have noticed that reveal insulation strips of 12x8 cm were installed! Accordingly, they are 2 cm too shallow. Apparently, the first package of insulation strips was empty and the wrong order was placed for the second pallet...
Upon initial inquiry with my general contractor, this was said not to be a problem since the windows will still be sealed airtight accordingly. Furthermore, it is supposed to be difficult to replace these insulation strips afterwards.
Now my actual questions:
- Is it bad that the insulation strips are 2 cm too short in depth? What should I expect?
- Does this affect the airtightness?
- Does this affect the insulation effect at the reveals?
- Can the insulation strips be replaced without removing the clinker again?
- Can I otherwise have a 2 cm layer glued on? (or is that shoddy work?)
If this is not to be seen as a serious defect, I would like to leave it as is, since I am afraid that the clinker would have to be torn off. The removal of the clinker at these points would cause a severe delay, since the windows are now supposed to be measured.
Thanks for your feedback.
