Hello everyone,

Last week we sampled windows & doors and now we have to decide on the resistance class. It concerns 8 windows, 1 sliding door, and the apartment door.

The following options are available:

1. Windows in RC2 ~ Additional costs approx. 6,000 euros
2. Windows in RC2N ~ Additional costs approx. 3,000 euros
3. Windows in S2 (standard house) ~ Additional costs approx. 1,000 euros

S2 includes the following points:

[*]Fittings: All-around fitting with 7-14 mushroom head locks + security strike plates
[*]Handle lever: Drill protection and lockable at least 100 Nm
    [*]Anti-lift device: none
    [*]Glazing: Standard triple glazing
    [*]Bonding: none
    [*]Performance proof: none

According to the provider, the fittings of S2, RC2N, and RC2 are identical with him. Differences between RC2N mainly lie in the installation method and the bonded panes. These can be retrofitted for about €40/window.

For the apartment and front doors, S2 would each cost 200 euros. RC2N and RC2 are certainly significantly more expensive.

My feeling leans towards the "standard house" as a) we are located in a new development area b) no increased risk of burglary exists c) doors & windows would have the same standard and d) the budget is not stretched.

I would gladly like to hear your opinions on the subject.

Best regards ConnyJash

House standard is sufficient in my opinion. I see no added value for more security. Why? Own experience in recent years. Break-ins only in sheds, garden huts, and neighbors' garages. No one dared to approach the house because it was too complicated.

Use RC2 if you live in an area where [Einbrüche in Häuser] are common.

I am not aware of any increased risk of break-ins. Therefore, I also tend to go with the "house standard." The likelihood that someone would tear the entire window out of its anchor seems very low to me personally.

Yes, if you live in a quiet area, all the better. Here with us, RC2 is the minimum standard. Anything below that is not worth starting.

That is a subjective decision. If someone wants to break in, then also at RC2. The only question is, do you seriously want to fend off the "stupid" burglar and avoid minor damage? Then RC2 is absolutely right. If professionals come, RC2 is not enough, but then you have a different problem. We also have everything on the ground floor in RC2 and accepted the additional cost. Why? The feeling (even of the stupid burglar) being in the house is definitely worse for us than the investment. But as I said, everyone has to decide for themselves.
