Well, because you often have the discussion, why didn’t you.....I look around, who buys and builds what, there the family contributes generously, inheritance is paid out early, etc. all of this is just not the case with us.

I could tell you at length why we haven’t saved that much, but that would take too long. There were always reasons. Wife dropped out of her first degree, then at 30 "only" finished, so not in working life for that long yet. Then kids, which cost, had to get a station wagon (paid immediately) etc. of course also simply lived well with vacations etc.

Currently we have a rent of 1000€ warm.
Although that really is still a good old rental contract. Today you would easily pay 300-400€ more for the same with us.

So, did 1000€ remain from your current income in the last 3-4 months?

Well, my wife's working hours are reasonable > teacher.
We already have childcare, but it is very expensive even though only until 2:00 p.m. and lunch.

With a total income of 6000€, the household budget says one could spend up to 2500€ on housing and still save something on the side.

No, a little less. About €600-700.

I just realized, if I calculate it like that, you are probably right. Now let's add the full-time position. That would come to about €2000 savings per month. Which would be €72,000 in 3 years. Why haven't I thought of this before?

Uncertainty on my part still lies in the question, what if the prices have continued to rise by then? Or if the interest rates spike?
How much is it then worth to have waited?

Thanks in advance for the input and the answers. I will calmly calculate everything again tomorrow.

Hm does your wife want and manage to work full-time with 2 children? In my family, they were glad to reduce teaching hours. It seems to be a high school or something like that? Lots of corrections. I would mentally say goodbye to special repayments. Especially since you would have to forgo vacations.
