You simply deal more often with fat and moisture, but also with dyes. Things do sometimes fall down or splash or spill. Do you want to constantly wipe it damp? Even if you did, wiping itself would be a greater strain on the flooring. Besides, parquet doesn’t keep such a beautiful closed surface forever like when it was new. Then something tends to penetrate it sooner. As I said, I have had bad experiences with it and would not recommend it.

I would worry less about mechanical stress. We also have parquet in the children’s rooms, office, and bedroom. It holds up to children if they are not completely undisciplined.

Had the combination of kitchen with parquet for the second time, never had any problems, never any stains etc. except for normal wear and tear. But we also clean regularly ;) and parquet is regularly maintained and gets its portion of oil. Anyone who doesn’t want to do that should of course think twice about parquet (in general).

The way I cook, that wouldn't be good for the parquet ;)

Sorry for you, we have a cleaning lady. However, this has nothing to do with cleaning regularly, but with cleaning "immediately." If beetroot falls on the parquet, it must be removed right away and not 20 minutes later. Tiles are more forgiving in that regard.

Yes, luckily we do too, but she doesn't live with us and only comes weekly ;) we don't let dirt stay on the floor that long. Something like beetroot falling on the floor... yes, it happens, but rather rarely, and then you should be able to handle it without waiting for the cleaning lady.

If you don't feel like it, then just don't have parquet flooring in the kitchen, but to say it can't be done... it just depends on your own consistency.

Anyway: 8 years of parquet in the kitchen (ok, spread over 2 houses), no stains. Regular oiling is done though.
