Well, if your husband has the necessary cash to pay that much for a storage room ... Let him have it. Collect prices and then decide. If it gets more expensive, you can say: I told you so.

Oh-oh-oh, I will be careful not to say something like that!!! There is nothing worse than when the wife knows better!

We would only have the necessary "spare change" if we gave up other things (carport, new kitchen, landscaping, etc.). His killer argument: "You can do all those things later. You can’t build a cellar underneath afterward!"

well, where he is right, he is right

You just have to agree on what both of you want. I assume that it is your money, and you both sign the loan agreement. Then you should also come to an agreement.

So I wouldn't want to miss my basement. But that's also because we weren't allowed to build the house arbitrarily large (semi-detached house). I admit, if that weren't the case, I probably would have built bigger and without a basement. But your husband is right. Well, not entirely, but a basement under an existing house gets really expensive.

If I could, I would also prefer to build a basement in our new construction instead of limiting myself to substitute rooms (laundry room + converted attic). However, our architect convinced us that a 100-120sqm basement is more expensive than equipping and converting the attic with a knee wall. But where should my home theater go now - problems upon problems...

Don't get me wrong: If I were swimming in money, I would be the first to build a basement. But our budget is limited at some point.

We are building such a large cabin because we regularly get visits from 3 part-time children (from my husband's first marriage). So two more children's rooms. But since the older ones are already 16, 14, and 12 years old, it is foreseeable that the two children's rooms will eventually be converted into an office and/or "storage rooms."

We now have 120 sqm with an additional basement room. With another 85 sqm of basement space, we would have so much space that we don't even need. And it also has to be kept clean (sorry, housewife thinking...).

But OK, I will now wait for the offer and if necessary talk to my husband again.

@ Der Da Yes, we need to talk and honestly, I am not willing to put more money into the house construction and have to restrict myself for life.
