e.. as far as I can see, it is therefore a component of the house and thus under warranty ..

An outlet or a window handle is as well, even though you could replace them. It was installed by the general contractor.
Nevertheless, I don't believe it falls under the warranty.
Take a look at your contract, the exceptions are written there.
In my opinion or knowledge, some components only have a 2-year warranty, specifically those that are constantly in use and exposed to other influences such as human or wind forces (or for example silicone joints due to aging of the material).
