At least it hasn’t made me any less knowledgeable about house construction, warranty, and defect notification.

And three newbies were there today, whom I was able to help a bit.
Everything else about me is none of your business.

Just go to the house builder and try your luck. Please share his reaction afterwards.

Then we'll all know how it goes

Assuming the toilet is changed now - then I am curious how the OP will cry in a few years because at some point he would prefer to have the higher toilet back...

Zaba hit the nail on the head. The 5-year warranty does NOT apply to defects that have existed for 5 years, but to damages/problems that become visible within the 5 years and whose cause lies in a construction defect.

So if the ceramic (the toilet) falls off the wall one day before the 5 years expire, you could go to the construction company and demand repair, since it was obviously not properly mounted at the time of construction. But "toilet too high" will not work, because it is not a defect and even if it were, the defect was not reported during the final inspection 5 years ago.

He can try, and he will surely do so. But please post the result here as well. Maybe we're all just stupid :-p
