For the former, a 2m high privacy fence up to the red line For the appearance, let clematis climb What really helps is waving - completely without a prison vibe You will be amazed how few actually look or realize that you are sitting there sipping coffee

Bushes grow 2-4 meters high, shrubs too. The effect of a hedge at the property line lets views through that then see the terrace. A nice terrace often has bushes around its seating area. Who wants to sit by a privacy wall?

I would plant an opaque, 2 m high hedge along the property boundary. Definitely not at the edge of the terrace, that would be restrictive. And maybe you also want to lie on the lawn in front of the terrace sometimes, and you wouldn’t want to be watched there either.

It does not feel cramped, since you are outside in the fresh air we are talking about just a few bushes.
Hedge at the property boundary as well.
I can look into every property and onto every free terrace across the street when I am on the upper floor... just not opposite, they haven’t left the terrace bare but planted on one side. On the other two sides, they can look into their garden.
Wind protection only works quite close and not at the roadside.

I think the suggestion from is quite good and would be worth considering…

In principle, I have no problem with the situation as it is, it just unfortunately doesn’t work for me…

especially since the table on the terrace is rather positioned on the north side, thus there is somewhat more “distance” between the border <-> table.

I associate a bush more with a low-growing plant. That’s why I had concerns about it in the other post. But if a bush can also be (very) tall, why not.

But this was about protection from passersby, not about protection from neighbors from the upper floor.
I can only report from experience. We had a bed with fairly tall plants in front of the terrace. I relocated it last year and since then we find it much better because it is more open.
