@Chris: When was that mentioned technical article again? What lambda value did the stones available on the market at that time have – or even better: What lambda value did the bricks have that had already been installed for about ~10 years at that time and could possibly have shown damage?
A facade simply also requires maintenance. If the necessary new coat of paint is neglected over decades, other building physics properties of the used building materials come into play.
