So depending on the material and thickness, there are specified values that have practically always been the same?

Yes, there are also wooden windows where a latch of the glued frame is made of cork, which slightly lowers the U-value. In my opinion, however, the thermal conductivity of wood is sufficient to avoid disadvantages, e.g., thermal bridges.

If wooden windows, then I would choose wood-aluminum. This eliminates the need for painting and the aluminum cladding is very durable. However, the prices should not be underestimated. That’s why we ultimately chose plastic windows.

We also have wooden windows and I simply find them beautiful. In terms of feel, even a high-quality plastic window cannot compare. Furthermore, wooden windows also have the edge from an ecological point of view. In our case, the rest of the house is also made entirely of wood. I think it is a great material. Those who do not care about ideological aspects probably buy plastic today. I believe that wooden windows have now become real niche products.

I also think it is very ideological. I only occasionally touch my windows at the handle, I don’t care about the feel of the frame. Therefore, I have plastic because it is much easier to maintain.

It is probably primarily a matter of taste and money. Personally, I find plastic windows to look cheap and cold. Wood looks much better. Today's wooden windows (e.g., Meranti) are very high-quality and generally not as maintenance-intensive as wooden windows from older generations. As a niche product, I would not describe it. I don't know any statistics, but I would say that in higher-quality houses, wood or aluminum is generally used, not plastic.
