Plastic windows vs. wooden windows

Well, in 2015, a share of 15% is expected for wooden windows, [Holz-Metall] only 9%.

Compared to 58% for plastic windows, that is not much. However, it is more than a niche.

Works fine. Every fourth house with wood then.....

Depending on how you look at it, but the metal window faction will also want to count the wood-metal windows among themselves...

From an ecological perspective, wooden windows are certainly the better choice. I always have to smile when home builders put importance on ecological construction during the shell construction, but then install plastic (PVC) windows, preferably also PVC flooring, and hardly anyone knows what materials in the sofas and carpets and in the beams emit fumes... Additionally, you can install different panes in the wooden window sash through re-profiling; you cannot do that with plastic windows.

And why other panes? With the plastic window, you can quite easily replace the pane – easier than with wood.

And the wood is treated in an ecologically harmless way? 100%? Meranti always from FSC-certified companies? The paints harmless? Also the still necessary maintenance coat?

I also like wooden windows, but in the end, they were too expensive for us – that's just how it is.

Whereas I suspect that often not very ecological substances are used to preserve the wood. In the overall balance, plastic often ranks higher than one might think.
