Good evening,
There is initially nothing wrong with an ETICS if a builder chooses this option on their own initiative.
However, at least according to my experience with architects, it is rather the case that an ETICS is recommended because the architect can then avoid the discussion about cracks in the facade.
It is comparable with the recommendation for a gas heating system. The legislator wishes and promotes the installation of renewable energies. Since these ultimately still represent new territory for most builders, they are uncertain and are easily influenced by the "experienced" architect towards the "old familiar" or even their prejudices.
Among other reasons, I am curious how architects will sell the new energy savings regulation with gas starting in January. Then, in my opinion, an additional ventilation will no longer be sufficient to meet the reference house requirements.
Rhenish greetings
Apparently you regularly deal with different architects than I have met here in the Stuttgart area. Not a single one has recommended an ETICS to me. We were also regularly informed about crack formation.
I set the tone myself regarding the heating. No one interfered with me there. The gas condensing boiler regularly costs less to purchase and the running costs compared to electricity prices are a gamble…. like betting on red or black in a casino. So in my opinion, at first glance, there are more arguments in favor of gas than for a heat pump. Different rules apply in 2016…but we are not there yet.
