Hello dear forum community,

I am currently considering whether it is worth getting a pellet stove instead of a regular wood stove.
The advantage of the pellet stove is that it can be programmed both time-wise and temperature-wise... for the wood stove, the cheaper price speaks in its favor.
Has anyone of you already had experience with a pellet stove and would like to share it with me :-)
P.S.
The stove is only to be installed as support in the living room and kitchen.

Many thanks in advance

Should it really support heating permanently? Then I would choose something with a lot of thermal mass. Otherwise, it gets warm quickly and cools down quickly again.

I don’t personally know pellet stoves. But pellets aren’t cheap, are they?

I think to save money on heating with a wood stove (excluding purchase costs) you really have to buy cheap wood.
That means cutting/splitting/chopping and drying it yourself for 1 - 2 years.
But it can also be fun :)

A regular wood stove produces a beautiful and natural flame pattern, if that should be important to you.

Of course, we also have radiators ;), i.e. the stove is only meant to support. Regarding the costs, I once checked on the internet. 1 ton of pellets as 15 kg bags costs around 270 euros... wood is probably cheaper. The advantage of the pellet stove, in my opinion, is that it can be programmed. The flame pattern is also a good argument, of course, but apparently there are stoves that can do both!?

For supplementary heating, a storage system - whether pellet or firewood - is important, because only in this way can the heat output into the room be properly regulated without it sometimes being too hot, sometimes too cold. For spontaneous additional heating, infrared modules are ideal.

We renovated a house 5 years ago and heat it exclusively with the pellet stove in the living room.

1 ton of pellets at 15 kg according to DIN A1+ costs 230 euros on Ebay Kleinanzeigen. With that, we heat for 1 year.

The pellet stove has a nice flame pattern and starts automatically to the desired temperature. Even my girlfriend says it’s the best thing we could do. Exactly 1 sack of 15 kg fits into the stove tank. It lasts 2 days for us. The stove is set to 22 degrees. It turns on at 19 degrees and heats up to 24. Then it waits again until the temperature drops.

We installed the one from Hark.
