I have the same concerns. Is 94.5cm too high or 82cm too low? According to our planner, a raw construction height of 1.25m is planned, and the floor structure would be about 18cm. However, the windowsill of about 2cm would also be added, making it 96.5cm. Does anyone have such high parapets?

Best regards
Sabine

That would be too high for me. However, it also depends on the total window area you have, whether the room can still use the additional light that results from a lowered sill height. The windows usually become larger as a result. Another point, in my opinion, is that with a relatively low sill height you can still have a good view out of the window "while sitting" on the sofa, whereas high sills tend to feel less cozy.

Significantly over 90 cm (windowsill in relation to the finished floor level) I would consider too high in children's and bedrooms and living rooms. Otherwise see [Knallkörper] --> It is not only the height for looking out or fall height (in the upper floor) that counts, but also the entire window area (can be related to the floor area, reference values can be found).

On the internet, I found a guideline of at least 1/8 window area compared to the floor area, but I also read that nowadays it is rather recommended to have larger windows than 1/8 of the floor area. Does anyone perhaps have a more current guideline?

I once calculated all the windows in our planned house. In the hallway on the ground floor and upper floor as well as in the utility room, we do not reach the guideline of 1/8; we are just below it, while in all other rooms our window areas clearly exceed the guideline, in the living-dining-kitchen area it is even almost 3 times as much area. In the hallway, we will work with glass doors anyway, since larger windows are not possible there, and in the utility room I think it is not so relevant whether the window area is sufficient, as it is not a living space. The windows with the questionable parapet height are all located on the upper floor anyway, where the window areas in the rooms all clearly exceed the guideline, so this is not so relevant here in the thread.

Last night I measured the parapet heights in our current apartment, there it is 82 cm to the underside of the window sill. In my office at work, it is 101 cm. Honestly, I find both parapet heights perfectly okay. In our house, according to the current plan, it would be something in between both with a tendency towards the parapet height in the office. The advantage of the "higher" parapet is, of course, that it is easier to place a desk or a dresser or something underneath (children’s room), but the advantage of the "lower" parapet would be that one can better look out of the window lying in bed and smaller children can also look outside (at least concerns one children’s room and the parents’ bedroom; in the second children’s room, there is also a floor-to-ceiling window). I think we will go again to the model house center this weekend and measure the parapet heights in various houses there and see which height we find most comfortable and then decide whether to lower the parapet height or leave it as it is. In the end, though, I think both heights should be okay and it's simply a matter of taste; after all, we are talking about "only" 12.5 cm difference!

@ Curly: Sorry that I crashed your thread here with my concern ops:.
