When a wall dries, it loses water, and therefore volume. However, in our walls, cracks have appeared in exactly one spot since July. Why? I think there is hardly any water in the Ytong masonry due to the bonding. However, the plaster on top is not thick enough to accommodate shrinkage without cracking. Exception: the cable channels. There, the plaster is thick. That tends to crack. Let it dry, apply quick filler, paint again, done.

I have 2 vertical cracks under 2 windows, nothing else. Aerated concrete blocks.

We also have Q3, although that is always very subjective... our walls are very smooth, gypsum plaster, so you can't see any unevenness even with raking light. We therefore had them painted directly, but with silicate paint, I wouldn't put a dispersion paint on the walls. We only have fleece on the ceilings, as otherwise you can already find one or the other small crack.

Hello Lumpi, why did you choose silicate and not dispersion?

Certainly, this is also a matter of belief.. Gypsum plaster can absorb larger amounts of water vapor quickly and release it evenly again, which leads to smaller fluctuations in humidity (e.g., when cooking, many people in the room, etc..) contributing to a pleasant indoor climate. With dispersions paint, you take this property away from the plaster, which would simply be nonsensical. Then the positive side effects, fungicidal... And quite subjectively: when you compare two test surfaces, silicate paints simply look better. The disadvantage is (at least according to the painter) that you should not paint yourself here. If you do not know what you are doing, it quickly becomes blotchy and uneven, touch-ups are almost impossible, and the paint is not especially health-promoting during application.
