We paid about €500 to the carpenter for the door, frame, and installation. Half for the door, half for the installation. During the renovation, one could also consider having new glass installed in the old window frames. We did that in the guest bathroom; the frame was completely intact and well insulated, the glass was old and was replaced with current glass. The difference is huge.

So €500 per door would actually not be "worth it" to me. Although I can’t assess how much better a new interior door is compared to the old one and how the appearance ends up (when painted). The window frames are intact, the windows (except for 2 Velux skylights) too. I want to keep the wooden frames and panes. Our building inspector said either live with it or big project (meaning windows, insulation, front door...) We don’t want that as long as the components function properly

Let's put it this way, you can get cheap, white interior doors for as little as 100 euros, but of course, they are neither particularly scratch-resistant nor soundproof. If your current ones are high-quality wooden doors, then refurbishment makes sense. A high-quality interior door cannot be obtained for less than 300 euros.

They are just those classic 80s dark brown wood veneer doors with wooden frames. How can I determine the quality?

If the doors are light or sound hollow, then they are probably paper honeycomb and the stuff is cheap. Then it goes with chipboard, first with battens, then tubes and solid chipboard. Finally, the expensive solid wood doors. Since veneered, solid wood is already ruled out.

We also spent about €100 on new tubular chipboard doors. Compared to the honeycomb, a huge improvement.

If you decide to buy doors and paint the frames, then you have to be careful with the shades. White is not the same as white. That's why we chose anthracite for the frames.

About the picture: It looks like our place before ;) We also have an 80s house.
