I personally see this as an important aspect. One should definitely consider to what extent this is reasonable for oneself.

100% - it has been said several times already, but many still do it again and again: Overestimating themselves immensely.

I don’t exclude myself from that - I also thought everything would be easy. But now there is an end in sight...

On the topic of overtime vs. own contribution. In theory, that is correct (keyword division of labor society). In practice, as already correctly noted, but additionally: - Especially high earners are often paid flat rates. Overtime does not mean more money. - One must compare one's own net hourly wage with the craftsman's gross hourly rate! Unfortunately, two different things! (But also true: own contribution takes longer, as already mentioned.) From my personal perspective: With planning, monitoring, decision-making, and all the related tasks (financing, "controlling"), I am actually quite well occupied (there is time for the forum, but who is up on their construction site at this time?), especially since work and family also need to be considered alongside the house construction. Later on, there is still enough time for own contribution: moving, preparing the handover of the old apartment, designing the garden (the latter as a lifelong task?). For my tariff colleagues with 37.5 hours/week and compensated overtime, Sundays at double pay, it may look different. They sometimes get up to 60 free days a year; not everyone wants to spend them with their wife .

For me, it is also the case that I have a fixed salary and cannot generate additional income through extra work. My boss also doesn't care when or how long I work each day, as long as the work that needs to be done is completed. Therefore, that is not an argument. That is why we also plan a lot of our own contributions, but we also have a strong family that supports us and save a lot of money as a result. What, in my opinion, offers great saving potential is if you can procure the material yourself (and ideally also install it). That it will be a very exhausting time with little sleep and rest is also clear to me, but you only build once in a lifetime. What one can do oneself in detail must be found out individually. For many tasks, you don’t necessarily need a university degree and can manage it yourself after 5 minutes of instruction.
