I have now done it with grainy acrylic. I used one tube for 3-4m because the expansion joint was 1-2cm. Even after curing, the acrylic was still soft and can be pressed in with some force using a finger. The concrete coating that I applied over it has so far also held on the edge joints. I just didn’t distribute this paint evenly in the room during application; there are spots where the paint is thicker and others where hardly any got on. I should have painted in daylight and not poured the pot over the floor to spread it, but always applied it nicely with the roller directly from the pot. However, the coating gives me a rather rubbery impression. I had expected it to cure more firmly.
All in all, though, it looks good and serves its purpose. Especially on the edges, I am satisfied because at first you don’t see that it’s an expansion joint. And after fully furnishing the room with shelves, devices, etc., I noticed that nothing presses specifically on the edge joint. So it’s not a problem.
Here are two photos of the result. Note: in one photo, cracks can be seen that came from poorly applied cement; they have nothing to do with the expansion joint. In the end, I would have had to apply more paint there to cover them or could have put some fine acrylic in. I may get some more paint and fix that.
