Hello everyone,

we have our eye on a plot of land that is nicely spacious, completely flat, and without a development plan. Out of sheer excitement, we already had to draw some initial floor plans and design our house on it – also to find out if what we imagine can actually be realized.

The ideas behind the design and our requirements:

Design specifications:

Single-story:
- Open living-dining-cooking area with office corner (possibly with glass partition or similar)
- Spacious kitchen, tall cabinets for side-by-side fridge-freezer, elevated oven, and dishwasher
- Dining area for regularly 6 but sometimes 10-12 people
- Living room with consideration for TV (no awkward necks), 5.1 sound system should be placeable, room for toys/playpen etc. should still be available
- Parent wing (separated), shower bathroom with WC, bidet, dressing room (2x3m closet), space for a "dressing table" in the dressing room or bathroom
- Landing staircase
- Pantry near the kitchen
- Guest WC

Children:
- Bathroom with tub, shower, 2 washbasins
- 2 as equal as possible children’s rooms
- a small guest room/office

General:
- Levels separable with reasonable effort as separate living units
- Facing the garden
- House shields the garden from the street to the north (approx. 500-1000 vehicles/day)
- Building on the beige areas (former buildings) should be avoided if possible
- Basement for heating (gas not available), storage room, workshop
- Preferably no sloped ceilings on the upper floor
- Partially covered terrace

What are your opinions?

Morning

The combination of hip roof and stairs at this point definitely won’t work.

Uh - why? The hip roof sits ON the floor slab of the upper floor. The upper floor has the full story height. The stairs do not lead into the roof.

Kitchen would be too open for me
TV in the middle of the room is very strange
Hallway is too big
WC doesn’t work like that - how are you supposed to get in there?
Parents' room is also nonsense with the 45° wall
It's all rubbish...
Guest room is a tube
Children's room wastes square meters through the access

Hello BeHaEIJa,

Thank you for your criticism

- We want the kitchen like this. We have it now, we like it.
- imagine the TV on a room divider about 150 high. Alternatively, we are considering putting up a wall where the TV can then hang
- The hallway should be spacious. When you come home with 4-5 people and everyone takes off their shoes and jackets, maybe also a stroller, then there has to be space.
- OK, the WC is a bit narrow. But the door opens outward, the room is 90 wide, a sink is 30 deep. That leaves 60 cm passage. Not huge, but should work. Or why do you think it doesn’t work?
- Why is the 45° wall in the bedroom "Quark"?
