Of course I want to heat in winter when the sun shines. Or didn't you understand how a heat pump works?

In winter, the output of your photovoltaic system is close to zero! No matter which modules are installed and no matter how large your system is. We will now assume a typical system on a single-family house. Perhaps the photovoltaic system provides a few kWh, but that can be neglected.

The sunny days from November to February are limited, we have already had Novembers without sun, then there is snow and ice, and the short days, the lower sun angle, etc.

And since the highest electricity consumption of a heat pump is admittedly in winter, it needs the most power when the photovoltaic system provides the least. So you have to heat with electricity.

I am actually curious, when we get another really frosty winter, how the owners of heat pumps will react to the high electricity consumption of their heat pumps. When it is minus 20 degrees outside for weeks and the supply temperature has to be electrically increased to 36 degrees. And whether 36 degrees supply temperature is sufficient even in well-insulated houses? It remains exciting.

The last few years we only had mild winters. And if now the argument with Norway comes up again. Yes, sure, it is much colder and darker there than here. One must not forget that a Norwegian only pays 4 cents per kWh and we pay around 40 cents here.

So 10 times more expensive. Heating electrically has never been good and never cheap.

Therefore, schedule the heating cycle during the day, as it is naturally usually warmer than at night. So better COP. Maybe if there is no snow on it, the photovoltaic system also brings a few kW.

And this is an on/off heat pump, its running time shows that it is not working optimally with 17 minutes.

Phew, I’m glad to live in Germany and feel global warming. Cold winters belong to the past. There may be regions where it might be cold for longer (like low mountain ranges), but widespread -20 degrees during the day for weeks you won’t experience anymore. The last cold waves you mentioned happened in 1929 and 1956. According to DWD, such outliers occur about every 50-100 years in a normal (and nowadays significantly warmer) winter. Better go to the regulars’ table again tonight. Your regulars’ table slogans will probably be better received there and not questioned ;-)

what is the name of the circulation pump in the menu and why should I turn it off or let it run once a day?
Should the optimization also be turned off? Or is that the circulation pump? In connection with photovoltaics.

I have entered hot water blocking times,

blocking from Mon - Sun
16:30 - 9:30 (I have a photovoltaic system that is oriented to the east).
I set the hot water to 46 degrees with a 6-degree hysteresis.
I also changed the heating curve from 34 to 28.
