Hello everyone, does anyone already have a photovoltaic system with storage in operation? If yes: How long, which brand, what are your experiences? Is anyone (like me) planning such a system in the near future? Given the continuously falling feed-in tariffs, it is certainly worth reconsidering. What framework data are you using for your calculations? Thanks for specific answers!

Hello, six months ago we installed a photovoltaic system and planned various options, from East/West to South, large system, small system, with storage, without storage...

And no matter how you looked at it... storage alone does not make economic sense, because then every self-produced and self-consumed kWh in the best case still cost >40ct, not even considering the tax costs from self-consumption.

Thank you for the response; I am currently at the beginning of creating the house concept (construction start is not until summer 2017) and therefore still have some time to possibly see falling storage prices. My primary concern is not the current economic viability; we are building the house for retirement and over a period of 5 - 10 or more years I, as a cautious person, already see electricity costs for private customers in the range you mentioned. I want to build a house with as low operating costs as possible, for example, geothermal heat pump with photovoltaics. There are almost no interest rates on money in the bank anymore, so we simply do not take out a loan but prefer to invest in a (energy) cost-effective future. Therefore, I am already looking around for such storage systems; a few are already on the market, but all are still quite new... Apparently, everyone here in the forum still benefits from the relatively high feed-in tariffs so far, but these will be quite low in the future; around 12 cents per kWh and that will certainly be even less later. Let's wait and see if anyone with initial experience emerges; thank you anyway for your opinion.

It is not an opinion, it is experience. I don’t know how old you are, but by the time you retire, you will definitely have to replace the inverter once due to a defect. Maybe then it will also be economical to retrofit the storage. Certainly not in the next 1-2 years.

One thing I don’t understand... You want low additional costs, that’s clear, but you are willing, calculated over the next 10 years, to accept an electricity price of 40ct/kWh...

You could also stand on the street and throw your money out the window.

You can do that, but you don’t have to.

We also have a heat pump. And I’ll tell you something, the concept of photovoltaics, storage, and heat pump works, especially in the months when you only need the washing machine for hot water.

In winter, you pay for it. Unfortunately, that’s how it is.

Got it: And I'll tell you what, the concept with photovoltaics, storage, and heat pump works, especially in the months when you only need the heat pump for hot water. That's why I'm also building a house with < 20 kwh/m2/year; in winter, we'll just use the fireplace – we want an open design and love fireplace flames anyway. It'll be made to fit... I'll report later on exactly how it works. The whole thing will be a beautiful "model railway".

The best overview of the current battery offerings I found at Verbraucherzentrale NRW. I am also concerned with the topic - is the battery worth it with a 5T € subsidy from KfW or is it better to wait!?
