Hello,

we built a single-family house in 2008. In the meantime, we have 3 children and would have the opportunity to build bigger again, but there are 3 wind turbines with a height of 200m at a distance of 1400 m.

Does anyone here have experience living next to [WKA]?
I cannot ask for experiences in the town, they have only been there since December.

Thank you very much

Hi,
no, I don't have direct experience, only from jogging past on a regular running route. It should be known that the parts directly attached make quite a lot of noise. Whether that still has an impact at a distance of 1400 m, the residents should actually be able to tell you. (But I actually can't imagine that, they're not that loud.)
I find the shadow and reflection issue more important. In which cardinal direction are they located from your possible house? Could the low sun shine through the rotors so that you have cyclic shading or flickering on the property? That can easily drive you crazy.
There are various websites where you can simulate the sun’s path and shadows. Maybe that will help you.

Best regards,

Andreas

Hello,
thank you very much for your answer.
So, there is no problem with the shadow flicker.
What worries me more is the issue of infrasound. There is nothing more precise about that. I just wanted to hear if people who live next to such things feel disturbed by the infrasound. (racing heart, sleep disorders, discomfort...) When the wind blows from the southwest, you can hear them even at a distance of 1400m, but not in such a way that I feel very disturbed. Because the property would be located southwest.

Just read the Wikipedia article about it. It depends on what you want to hear. If wind turbines make you feel uneasy anyway, I would advise against it. I think a lot of it is psychological. Like with "water veins," electromagnetic radiation, microwaves, etc. If you search on the internet, you will find enough sites blaming infrasound for all sorts of things and enough sites denying any harm or influence. Whom you choose to believe is up to you.

While I would not exactly classify Wikipedia as a scientific source, it does provide a good initial overview.

The whole infrasound topic is heavily burdened with emotions, and if people want to feel bad about it, they really do feel bad. They also feel bad when they see a mobile phone mast, even if it is not yet in operation...

The tenor seems to be that so far there is no scientific evidence of harm or impairment. That is hopeful, although people also believed until the 1960s that smoking was healthy.

Regardless of that: Anyone who feels uncomfortable with the topic should ask themselves whether they might later feel emotionally/psychologically burdened by it. And feeling burdened is enough as a source of discomfort!

In other words, ask yourself: “Do I believe that infrasound, etc., at this distance, far below the human hearing threshold and many orders of magnitude lower than any proven harm, is safe for us, or not? Do I believe that if there were any real danger, it would have already been scientifically proven?”

If you cannot answer these questions with a clear “yes,” stay away from the property.

Best regards,

Andreas

I myself have never lived near a wind turbine or several, but I almost once viewed a house there. We had searched and drove 2 hours because there was nothing visible of a wind turbine in the realtor’s picture... well, once we got there, everything was full just a few meters from the garden. The realtor had shamelessly retouched it out so that people would come first. At least that shows that it must be very, very unpopular. They are said to be very loud.
