Hello,

I have a question about our new build

For the windows, we were offered a security fitting in 2 levels

Level 1: €45/wing mushroom bolts all around, 4-edge steel tube and drilling protection

Level 2: €110/wing everything even better

I think level 1 would be enough max, on the ground floor we have 7 wings or do you say that the standard window is sufficient in terms of protection? Windows: (Veka Softline 82)

Front door:

Standard 5-point locking

Surcharge €200 3-point automatic locking (what does that bring? is it needed?)

Do you need an anti-lift protection for the front door? That is a metal plate for €100 that prevents it from being lifted

Does a burglar even break in through the front door in a new semi-detached house or do they not just go through the windows anyway?

Our front door faces the street of a large new development area

Do you need a security bar for the front door?

My personal opinion? One level above basic protection is enough. My last three break-ins (in my previous houses) were: garden shed, garage, 2x garden (fire bowl, bench, etc.). I prefer to spend my money on what I consider more sensible investments (e.g. outdoor lighting with motion detector).

A tip from my building consultant was: lockable window handles provide more security than many other things. Because making a hole in a window is faster than prying it open. Secure windows cost several hundred euros more and then every window on the ground floor must be equipped with them, otherwise it is pointless... It is always important to look at the weakest link in the security chain and the spots that are poorly visible from the street and easily accessible, especially patio doors and patio windows. Maybe a (Fake?) camera is also a very effective measure. But then it also looks like there is something to be gained...

ok thanks yes we then have to equip all the windows on the ground floor and the windows above the garage with the protection, there are a total of 9 window sashes

We also think that step 1 is completely sufficient, if the burglar realizes it doesn't open quickly then they will just leave again

What do you think about the lever protection for the front door? or is the 5-point locked front door already sufficient?

Do people even lever front doors open? I believe burglars always go through the windows or patio door, right?

Didn't someone say that by now they even rather go through the wall? Porous concrete can apparently be pried open quite easily nowadays. Then even the thickest steel door is no longer safe if it's simply knocked out of the wall.

One thing my father-in-law made me consider. Security glass and super protection are expensive. If the burglar doesn't get in or eventually did get in but destroyed a door/window worth a few thousand euros in the process, that might end up being the biggest damage.

So maybe better not so much burglary protection but more lighting and few valuables in the house.

Your approach with only level one (do you mean RC1?) is therefore not stupid at all.
I have RC2 everywhere.

We were told that sliding doors are the most vulnerable. They can probably be pried open quite easily. The window builder's tip here was actually to saw a wooden batten to size, which you wedge from the inside into the fixed part when you are away for an extended period, so that the door can no longer be slid open. Additionally, we chose lockable olives on the ground floor.
