Now don’t make the two crazy because of children who have not yet been conceived. There is more than not working at all and working full-time. And especially when the commute disappears thanks to home office, you are far from 10 hours of daycare per day. And the grandmas are also happy to see the grandchildren. Gradually increasing is of course advisable, but the situation is not comparable to a father who is absent half the time. I see no reason to paint the devil on the wall here, it is all a matter of organization and improvisation.

I also think that there is still money missing for possible upgrades. So now. Through the savings rate, however, a considerable amount of equity can still be accumulated until moving in. Now the first considerations are taking place. Please do not forget the [KAUFnebenkosten], if it really is a [BT Projekt].

Costs too conservative, risk if the woman becomes pregnant and income stops, please note. Repayment too low for my taste.

Have you also looked at existing properties?

Otherwise, you currently have a very good financial starting position

I see it the same way. My eldest also started daycare at 1 year old. At first, I had the classic guilt of a young mother. Am I too career-focused? Poor child, parked in daycare. But that didn’t last a week. When you see how the little guy blossoms in the company of other children, how he learns how social groups work – and then all the toys and activities that you simply don’t have the space for at home. Bobby car race tracks and who knows what else. My little one loved daycare from day one, which might not be super common either. But care is so much more than a kids’ parking lot. I think it’s often portrayed too negatively.

I don’t want to start a childish discussion now, but I find it absurd to park a one-year-old child who has just taken their first steps for 30-40 hours per week in a daycare. Children like to sleep 12-13 hours at night, meaning the child spends 50% of their time in a daycare center. Sure, the child is not treated badly there, but I wouldn’t buy a dog just to put it in a kennel again. All this just so that you can afford a home of your own. Children want time with their parents, not a €30k kitchen with high-gloss fronts.

To the actual topic: From my own experience: The customization will always cause additional costs. The extra repayments mostly go towards other things. The intention that you always dutifully make your extra repayments is about as likely as saying after the dentist, “from now on, I will use dental floss daily.” Returning to work 6 months after birth is certainly possible, but I wouldn’t firmly plan on it. Two full-time jobs with 1-2 children, I consider suicide. If you find childcare, children are often sick and depending on the daycare/kindergarten, children often have to stay home even with a runny nose. But even if all children are cared for, it is a mammoth task.

All in all, I would therefore not deviate from the project. You still have family in the area etc. So it will certainly not be as comfortable as you have currently calculated, but certainly doable. Life usually turns out differently than you think.

How are your chances of improving your salary over the years? Or will you roughly stay at the current level until retirement?
